Need help ASAP!!!
I need some serious help. To make a long story short, I have a 1997 Dodge Ram in my shop that I have rebuilt the transmission on. I had no problems at all, except the reverse is STILL not working. The book said to put "chamfered" side of pump down, and I am not sure which side is "chamfered". One side has a square cut and one side has a tapered cut. It is running great in forward, but it slips in reverse. This seemed to be an easier tranny for me to do, so I cant figure out what I did wrong. Also, the customer needs his truck, as I am letting him drive mine because I cannot get the reverse to work. He has already paid me, so I am in a bind. Any help would be greatly appreciated. You can email my wife at deseralpn@yahoo.com also.
the chamfered side would be the side with the taper, but if you've got forward gears, you obviously have pump pressure, so that's not the issue. try re-adjusting the reverse/low band. Also the reverse/low band strut is commonly bent in chrysler transmissions, and there is an update available. One other thing it could be is a possible restriction somewhere in the valve body or just the solenoid itself is malfunctioning. to check if it's an issue with the band, put the vehicle in low(1st) and mash the pedal. if it slips, it's a band issue. If not, its a valve issue. Refer to service information, but I'm pretty sure that that band is used only for reverse and manual low. I hope this helps you out. Have a good one!
