Need help on mistery problems unsolved
I need some advise. I have an 88 Dodge D150 full size pick up with an automatic tranny and a 318 in it. It is bogging out at all times, but especially under a load and no power up even the smallest hill. It will run at light throttle, but once I punch it, it boggs and bucks. I've replaced all the sensors on the throttle body except for the TPS which I tested and it's ok. I replaced the coolant sensor as well. I've also replaced the fuel, air, and oil filters.
I was running much worse before I did that, but it's still running pretty much the same.
I'm also having problems with the headlights on the same truck. After awhile, my headlights start to turn off and back on and off and so on. They will shut off completely until I pull over and turn them off for awhile. Then I can go for about another 15 to 20 minutes and it will happen again. It's a lot of fun going down the highway in the dark, but I don't think the cops will like that very much. Neither does my wife. Any ideas???
I need suggestions. I have some more to replace, but I'd rather hear from you all out there before I go broke. I'd hate to have a good running truck with no money left to put gas in it! Any and all ideas are welcome. No idea is a stupid idea. I wanna hear it. Thanks! Peace out![8D]

The headlights are on a circuit breaker built into the switch. It could be getting weak or your lights are drawing more than they should. On the power issue if it is high milage the timing chain is probably worn. Just a possibility it could cause this.[sm=americanasmiley.gif] Almost forgot, catalytic converter may be plugged on the power issue.

Get a vaccum guage and check vacuum at idel and 2500 rpm, 2500 rpm is usually higher than idle at around 17-20 inches. If vacuum goes down at hiogher rpm then I also would lean toward clogged exhuast. If vacuum is just flat out low across the board then timing chain, ignition timing or low compression. No matter what a vacuum guage will tell you a lot. I agree with previous posts about the headlights, circuit breaker is poping either due to bad switch or too much current draw thru lights ( IE: bad ground(s))
