trans problems
need some help here. i have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 with the 318 magnum motor. very ahppy with the motor, responded well to the FLOWMASTER install. my problem is when i drive the truck on the freeway for an extended period of time the transmission seems to loose the ability to keep the tourqe convertor locked up. the rpms will fluctuate about 200-300 revs for a briefe second and then go back to normal. some times it will only do it for two to three times other times it will constantly do it. i read an artical on dodge diesel trucks having problems with thier tourqe convertors but it did not mention half ton gas trucks. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Do full trans service consisting of dropping the pan, changing the filter(s) then doing a 100% trans fluid flush.
Old/worn out fluid is causing more and more of the symptoms you describe on todays vehicles, so we always start with the easy stuff.
Also several technical bullentins about this from various manufacturers.

thank you very much. i will have to try that first. really dont want to have the transmission rebuilt. only have 60000 miles on it. only draw back to doing full trans service is that at the time of service i would really like to install a shift improver kit. would really hate to install it though and then find out that the trans needs to be rebuilt. anyway, thanks for the advice. will let you know after servicing.
