Default Wreck

Someone decided to rearend my truck pretty bad on friday. There was a police report filled out at the wreck. At the wreck all i noticed was my bumper was gone. I just noticed today that the bed actually somehow came up, hit the cab on the drivers side and dented it, then went back down. There is still a gap between the bed and the cab about how it used to be, but the damage is noticable. Any had this happen? Also, the bed is not on straight anymore. Its a little crooked. It sticks out a little from the cab on the passangers side and not on the drivers side. The drivers door sags and handle gets stuck sometimes. My muffler is rattling too. The weird thing is my drivers seat seems messed up too. It kinda falls through when i sit on it. I think it happened when i slammed back into the seat.

Im wondering how bad does this damage sound and do yall think the insurance will cover the seat? What about the muffler? What could be the damage to the bed? Oh yea and its a 98 Dodge Dakoto Ext. Cab 5.2L V8.

I was not at fault at all. I was at a full stop because of the car in front of me and the guy didnt see me until it was too late and plowed into me.

The other drivers insurance should cover everything,IF,they have valid insurance. When you take the truck for the estimate(s) be sure to point out everything you have told us.
Were you injured?I noticed the time stamp on your initial post and it was late in the evening, how do you feel after having a good(?) nights sleep?
Medical payments should also be included in the other drivers insurance.Neck and back problems can sometimes appear several days later. You might want to get checked out by a Doctor.

+1

Everything he stated is 100% correct!

Since you were not cited at fault, the other persons insurance is 100% liable. The things you should know is since there was a police report, the person obviously had legit insurance otherwise they'd most likely have been arrested at the scene. I would still double check on it anyhow.

Get checked by a doctor regardless of how you feel, as some conditions dont present until you do some active activity like lifting a box or even picking up a child to put them in bed. Some people dont even know they've had a concussion until days later.

As for your truck, you may not have the luxury of getting it worked on at a place you want or getting it looked at by a place you want. Depending on the insurance company, they may want it taken to specific places that will try to get by on repairing things rather then replacing them. While this doesnt mean they are short-changing you, I still want you to be aware of it. I recommend 2 things.

1 - Get your truck looked at by a couple of shops in the area. Point out the things you've seen and the things you arent sure about. Get a couple of estimates as to the total cost. This will at least give you a ballpark idea of what the costs will be and allow you to be informed when the other person's insurance gives you their decisions regarding where to take it and who to have look at it. I suggest getting 3-4 estimates. That way you have a decent range of pricing ideas. Some insurance companies dont require it being taken to certain places, simply that you mail them estimates and they'll decide on the best one.

2 - Talk with your own insurance agency and ask them questions regarding your rights and what have you. They are more then happy to inform you of these. While I dont suggest getting your insurance company involved unless need be, it never hurts to keep them in the loop and watch out for yourself.

Good luck with the truck repair, and hopefully they take care of you properly and swiftly.
