Default Motor Oil

What type and/or brand of motor oil is the best? Facts and opinions are both welcome.

With a complete fluid exchange and if you have the money for it, IMO i'd say Royal Purple.

Any (full) synthetic is better than dino oil. As for which brand of synthetic is best, you will get a ton of different opinions. Visit the INDEPENDENT oil test sites on the internet, not the ones sponsored by the manufacturer. Overall, Mobil-1 seems to be pretty popular with Dodges......it's factory fill for several exotic cars such as the Dodge Viper and others. I've used it in my SRT-4 with no problems....

Im amazed at how much this question gets attention.

Im also amazed that due to better oils and stronger engines, the oil companies want us to change our oil more often and using more expensive oil. They used to recommend oil changes every 5k miles and now its 3k. Its incredible that the engines of the old 70s even ran at all with those recommendations!

I guess its like putting a full body armor suit on your child before he goes outside to ride his bike. I didnt have all that protection, and I was jumping ramps made with a 2x4 and a brick not some injection molded, reinforced, super duty, plastic ramp that you can jump a motorcycle over. [&:]
Anyway I believe that the oils out on the market will get you 150k+ miles with regular maintenance, upkeep, and oil changes. Anything of higher "quality" and I think your throwing money into the wind.

I tried a semi synthetic and it was ok but then I changed to Mobil 1 and my mileage improved. I own a 03 DAK.

As technologhy improves in the processing and making of oil so does the ability to go further between an oil change. At some time we are going to hit a limit on oil change intervals a fluid can only hold so much. Now as for the difference in oils , a true synth, a synth,a semi blend, and an organic oil.

a true synth: some examples of which are amsoil, red line, royal purple. These are true synthetics are truly man made.

a synthetic: such as mobil1,castrol syntec, pensoil synthetic. These have changed formulas over the years and no use a highly refined organic oil base stock.

a synthetic blend: is a organic oil that is fortified with more additive package it can contain no more then 30 percent synthetic.

organic oil is just that good old fashioned oil that they pump out of the ground and clean up. Which by the way when looked at under a microscope still contain dirt in it.
