Default 97 ram a/c problems

I have a 97 dodge ram sport and a lil while my a/c only started blowing out of the bottom no matter where the **** is set at, no defrost, no middle, just at ur feet. Took to shop and they gave me an estimate for 600 bucks and said most was labor because u have to take the hole dash apart, so as it gets hotter i gotta figure something out, georgia summer isn't any joke. anybody else have this problem? know what part i need?( i guess it is the whole a/c box in the dash) where i could find it?

Default RE: 97 ram a/c problems

As long as your a/c is the manual style rather than automatic then you have a vacuum supply issue. Open the hood and look for where the main a/c lines enter the firewall, there should be a small black plastic vacuum line near those lines. It is the ONLY vacuum line going into the firewall. It will be there somewhere. Look it over carefully for any breaks all the way back to the engine. Rubber vacuum line from your local auto parts can be used to splice back the broke line. You may have a vacuum ball/reservoir in the mix also. If so then the line runs from engine to reservoir and then to firewall. Common for line to fall off reservoir.
