I own a 02 neon and its been giving me hassle.

Whenever the car should shift from 2nd to 3rd it over revs then finaly shifts very jerky. I does the same thing from 3rd gear to 4th.

When I took it into a shop to have it looked at the guy told me it was a "Loose bolt" and he tightned it and it was fine. About 2 weeks later same problem. I cant take it back to the guy since I moved 400 miles away.

Does anybody know what could be causing this? Money is tight and I'd rather not take it to a new mechanic.

could be an air leak.check kick down switch. than check modulator under transmission. there should be a hose running to it, might be dry rotted and cracked. there might be sludge in tranny. new shops clean tranny fluid and filter right in car coast about 100.00. valve train might need to be replaced. but try thr cleaning first.
