Rust? What the Hell Do I Do With Rust?
My '95 Intrepid is rusting. I've never had to deal with this kind of problem before, so I don't know what to do or what rust can do to a car. Will painting over it help? Can that sh*t be sanded off?
It started by my noticing some sun damage on the roof. We had to leave the car at his mother's house when we moved temporarily to Vegas. It sat in her driveway for 4 months and our dumbasses didn't think to cover it.
Any advice?

Rust will eventually eat holes in the car, wherever it starts. If you want to keep the car in any kind of decent condition you have to stop the rust now.Remember, rust never sleeps.
Painting over it won't even slow it down.Rust needs to be removed completely or it will continue to grow, even inside paint.

My durango is from maine, i'm in the same boat you are. I do autobody on the side along with other small things an honestly rust is the biggest challenge to body shops, with out complete taking the body off the frame there is no way to get your rust completely gone, see thats my problem is my frame, i have rust all over it so i'm going to buy another durango an take the body i have now an put it on anew frame, Ok i need to know a few things, what all is rusted, simply the roof ? if so all you have to so is take a sander, use 40 grit sand paper an take the paint off, use a grinder with a wire brush, cut down the rust, use some bondo to fill the holes/rough spot's in the roof, sand it flush to were it's smooth, an then prime it an paint it.. Or you can take it to a body shop an have them do it lol
HA! Yeah, but if it's that simple, I'll do it myself! The rust is on the roof. It looks bad, there's a pretty good layer of orange on about 1/3 of the roof. Aside from that, the top of the trunk and very small areas of the hood are getting speckle-y white. I'm told that's the beginning stages of rust.
All that aside, I so LOVE the nasty rusty splotchy look of my Intrepid! Also, one of the wheel covers came off, so I took off the other three and feel like Mad Max haulin' down the road. Not only is it a bigger sedan that's heavier, mine is a V6 so I can go roaring down the highway here in my stuck-up upper class suburban Texas town and scare the **** out of the soccer moms! Even the ones in Hummers get out of my way!!
I really detest that, rich soccer moms that do nothing but city driving and they buy ****ing HUMMERS! [/rant]
