Default transmission issues

i have a 2000 jeep gcl with 4.0 and a 42re tranny. my problem is that i dont have 1st or 2nd gear while in drive it starts out in 3rd, however if you put it in 1 and manually shift throught the gears they are all there. this transmission will not shift down after that you do however have to shut the vehicle off and it will start off like its supposed to but after that first time its done. i have change the fluid and filter i have had it on a on the computer for the codes (and you would prolly guess it theres nothing worng with it) well dodge cant find anything wrong with it. so i took it to aamco transmission and they told me that the tranny fluid was contanminated and wasnt holding pressure that i needed a new one. can anyone tell me whats wrong with it??!!

Default RE: transmission issues

I don't think it is bad. It would throw a code of being out of pressure range if that were correct. I'm thinking a pressure solenoid or governor solenoid is stuck. This will make the computer think it's in the right gear therefor not throwing a code.[>:]
