ok well this is probably a stupid post but oh well its a question lol... i found a small scrap on the car that goes down the metal (like when i say small i mean SMALL like hardly noticable) and its rusty and its right on the window frame on the edge... and i know that a little rust can and will turn into big rust later on so anyway of killing it before it spreads more?

 

i would sand it down and use touch up paint from the dealership.

 

would duplicolor from Autozone work? and what grade sand paper should I use? i've never really done ANY body work except for popping dents out of my fenders lol

 

try a Green Scotch Brite pad or maybe 600 grit. dont go crazt just sand what needs to be sanded. as long as you get rid of the surface rust and get some paint on there youll be good. hope this helps

 

I just read somwhere else on the forum that Naval Jelly will work. Just make sure that you touch it up and then wax it later.

 

There is a product called Por 15 that is used for painting rust. You can actually paint very bad, almost rusted completely through, rust with it and once it's dry you can hit it with a mallet without any coming loose where doing the same with normal paint on that kind of rust will go straight through. It is claimed to also completely stop the rust from worsening or spreading. Por 15 is more for very bad rust though.

I just noticed this post ... got some rust on the new clunker I bought in place of the wrecked mini van. Didnt look at that car well enuff and it does have lotsa rust underneath ... so much so that when I didi the rear brakes this weekend, I found that one of the drums were rusted through on the side facing the wheel.

Anyway .. like I said this is my clunker just for around town and to work when I cant ride the Harley. Whats best to take the rust off ?
