Hi
I have a 1989 4WD 2Dr Cherokee. It has the inline six engine. It idles very poorly and the whole engine shakes. The exhaustvsmells extremely rich and it back fires occasionally. It also burns an enormous amount of gas. I did the first thing I knew how and replaced the cap/rotor, plugs and wires with no result. The engine seems to run fine under load or excellerating though.
Any ideas on where to look? Timing, inginition coil, vacuum leak, etc.
