Default crankshaft speed sensor/pcm/speed/overdrive

I recently replaced the PCM with a rebuilt module from Chrysler. The speedometer is still not working and therefore not going into overdrive. If the check engine light comes on everything works fine, but when it shuts off, I lose the speedometer. I have tried a module from a gas job and speedometer activates right away. Took truck into dealer and 4 hours later mechanic feels it is the PCM. He called Chrysler and they are suggesting changing the crankshaft speed sensor. Another $300. with no guarantees. Chrysler does not want to test one of their modules to verify not a problem with their modules. Anyone ahve any suggestions other tahn finding another 93 and trying the rebuilt module in another truck to see if speedometer works with this module? Thanks in advance.

Crank sensor? Do you mean they want to change the output shaft speed sensor in the back of the trans?

no apparently there is a crankshaft speed sensor which I believe is at the front of the motor, nothing to do with the transmission.

Time to find a new shop. The crank speed sensor tells the computer where each cylinder is in the cycle. And of coarse the rpm.The computer in a 93 does not know what gear you are in so it can not calculate the speed from the engine speed. .The speed sensor is on the drivers side, just behind the trans mount.

Chrysler engineering has told the shop mechanic that this is what needs changing. The mechanic at the shop does not hink this will change things. Unfortunately I am going to ahve to go this route and if this does not make the speedometer work and the tranny go into overdrive will have to go after Chrysler for their misleading information and additional costs. The mechanic feels it is teh PCM that is defective and requested them to pull one from the shelf and test it. Chrysler engineering is refusing to do this.[:@]
