How to keep a 440 cool?
[sm=feedback.gif] It is only March, and it has been 95 degrees already, I'm a little concerned about overheating during the summer when it gets hot! I live to So. CA. and it is not unsual to hit the low 100's so cooling is a big issue I want to address before life gets really hot.
Yesterday it was 95 degrees, got stuck in traffic, temperature hit 210 pretty quick. As soon as I started moving about 30 mph it began cooling down and after about 5 minutes at 30 mph it was 185 which I can live with. NOthe A/Cwas not on. In a month or so it could be high 90's or low 100's and with that extra heat I'm a little concerned if I can keep the engine cool.
Here is the info: 70 Challenger, 440, 10.25 compression, running stock cooling fan and stock 26 inch radiator. Radiator has just been gone thru and is basically new, no restrictions or rows crimped off. Scoops on hood have been opened up for fresh air and let the heat out but don't think that will help much. Car has A/C, there is not enough room in front of radiator and between the evaporator core for electric fan and NO room between radiator and fan blade for electric fan.
I'm looking for ideas that have worked for you that would be applicable to my ride. In a perfect world I do not want to modify parts or the car for something to work.
Let me know what you think!
Thanbks,
John

Red Line Water-wetter with water and a 20 psi radiator cap works for me. 195-210 is a good operating temp range to help keep valve deposits down on a pump gas, street driven engine.
