Default Borla vs. Magnaflow vs. etc

Just finished doing a bit of research in the forums about exhaust systems. Right now I'm conflicted. This is what I want (for right now) Borla cat-back split side exit exhaust system. What I am looking for is increased MPG, power and torque (without losing bottom end). However, I did find a couple of posts regarding Magnaflow. Please answer a couple of questions....1) What are the major differences in the two (or more) exhaust systems? 2) What would be the best way of purchasing said systems? i.e. going to a local muffler shop or off-road shop and having them order and install or ordering online and going to a shop to install (I purposely didn't list ordering and doing it myself because I am a dork when it comes to fixing things myself. I am ashamed to admit it). 3) What systems did y'all go for and why? What was it about that particular system that got you hooked? i.e. performance, price, sound, etc.

Thanx for your input y'all. Y'all helped me out with my TBS problem....so I appreciate it.

Oh I forgot...4) How is it that an exhaust gets you more performance? Kinda sounds oxymoronic.

I haven't done it yet but I'm going to do a Magnaflow. I saw a comparo article in a 4x magazine not longago and the Magnaflow seemed to be the most consistent top performer. the kicker for me is that I'm told the sound level is about tht of the factory which my wife will appreciate and it still delivers that troaty growl we all want from a V8.

An engine is bassically a pump that pulls and pushes air through it. The more dense it enters and the smoother it exits the more performance you can expect. These aftemarket exhaust reduce a condition called backpressure which allows the engine to runn more efficiently so more power and better MPG.

Default RE: Borla exhaust

Hello,

I just completed installing a Borla exhaust on my 98 D and I must say I am satisfied with the results it has a nice sound, and it's quiet at highway speed. Most of all you do not need to be a rocket scientist to install it all hanger line up for an easy installation.
