Need suggestions on painting interior vinyl
The interior on my son's 80 Aspen coupe is in terrible shape. His aim is to "restore it to a "Sunday driver" conditon to take to cruise-ins. Much of the interior vinyl kick panels, A pillar posts, and such are sun-faded and some pieces are powdery. His intent is to paint these pieces. Does anyone have suggestions on the type of paint to use and can you suggest where we can buy the paints? Thanks.
There are paints specifically for interior parts and trim vinyl. You should be able to pick up the paints at any autoparts store or places like Walmart and Meijers.
I would agree with using probably a vinyl spray paint. My friends used just high heat autmotive spray paint and it flaked off their A-Pillars and they had to strip it off and paint again. The vinyl spray paint sticks to it much better and takes being flexed much better than regular kinds of spray paint.
There are paints made specifically for vinyl. But make sure you follow the directions on the can exactly, so that your paint won't chip or flake and bubble on you. They can be found at any autoparts store. And work great on plastics also. They're in spray cans, so they're very easy to use, some brans sell bases and top coats with them also. Depends on how shiny you want it to be when your done.
i would have to disagree with the automotive paint comment on how it doesent stick.... i think just someone doesent know how to prepare plastic the right way for it to stick correctly.....

hell just go here......... ive painted sooo many interiors.. this is a fraction of what ive painted interior wise........http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/696617/4

Big difference between a professional job and DIY.
I would also recommending going to Pep Boys or Auto Zone and get some plastic/vinyl paint. It's almost fool proof.

You can use automotive paint, trick is, make sure the pieces are CLEAN, and use a primer made for painting plastic.

or if you want to use automotive paint make sure you use a flex agent in the primer
don't forget your prep work unless you wanna do it twice
