i owned an '84 (first year for the XJ) and i liked it a lot. it was a tank. but as long as u have the 4.0L your pretty much set. in my '84 i had Dana 35 up front and a Dana 40 in the back. the '93 probaby has the Chrysler 8.25" and not sure up front. but yea. their rock solid.

My brother has a 93 jeep grand cherokee, 4.0, auto, quadra trac transfer case. He bought it a few years back with 160000 on it, got it up to 175000 and it started throwing oil and the head gasket blew. He resealed the engine and was good to go, still running strong, according to the previous owner it never was in the shop for anything other than regular maintenance, and the only other thing besides the seals was the passenger side cv joint. They are excellent cars.

never heard of HG's blowing in them....did your brother overheat her or something? and i've only heard of like weak spots in the 97+ when they changed the design...my friend had one and she loves it but its been in the shop for AC problems to PS problems...but shes still running her.

No, she didnt over heat, any car can have a headgasket blow under the right circumstances. I helped him tear it down and there was a nice hole between the 1 and 2 cylinders. Those 4.0's have to be some of the most reliable engines ever made...

Iowned a 98 Cherokee and I loved it. About the only thing I didn't like, going from a Wrangler to a Cherokee, is the carpets could not come out and be cleaned when they had gotten dirty on the trail. Aside from that my Cherokee was great. Plenty of power. Good off road too.
