Default '87 Jeep Cherokee Won't go past 2000RPM

'87 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4.0L, 250K miles.
Starts fine. Will not rev higher than 2000RPM. Tries to cut out. Any suggestions?

Do a tune up. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor.

You might also check to see if the timing chain slipped a tooth or two. Did it happen all of a sudden or has it been going down hill for a while?

Do a tune and make sure it is properly getting all the basics...fuel, air, spark. Could have a crack in the air intake somewhere. Had a truck that kept cutting out for that reason.

I would say your Cat Convertor is clogged. Unbolt the exhaust pipe that attaches to the exhaust manifold and see if problem persist.
