WTF was i thinking? LOL
Well heres the story. i had seen a 27ft u-haul drive into a ditch, 1st thought was you fin idiot. so being a nice guy i drove down to see why he did it. he thought he could "go into the ditch and come out on the road being there was not even enough room for it to begin with" and along with having his 06 acura on a 16ft trailer which i then seen after pulling up behindem and thinking "this might be interesting". well feeling sorry for the guy i decided to take out my strap and seeing if i could pull both truck and trailer out of the ditch. 4L 1st gear. easy on the gas. BANG! goes the strap. tied it on a little tighter. the combined weight of i'd guess about 20,000lbs moved about 1ft then BANG! well me and him both agreed that it wasent going to work so it was time for mr.hook to come out. i left. 2.5HRS later there still trying to get it out with 2 tow trucks both 1 tons. well basicly i gained a big croud of ppl watching the lil jeep that thought it could but dident "due to strap" but he was thinking my ZJ dident have the "eumph" for a straight 6 its got the power IMO. just couldent get that darn strap to stay tight. well after researching im gonna take a trip to tractor supply and get there 3inx20ft strap rated for 27,000lbs! oh well winters almost here, maybe i can test it on a semi LOL. just thought i'd share my day.
Don't buy a tow strap, buy a Recovery Strap. The built in stretch of a recovery strap stores enough energy to effectively double the pulling power of the recovery vehicle.
But it's important not to go overboard and buy the biggest strap you can get. If the weight of the vehicle you are attempting to pull is not heavy enough to stretch the strap, then you are not getting any benefit over using a tow strap. The rule of thumb is not to exceed twice the weight of the vehicle being pulled plus the force of it being stuck. For most uses, a 2" recovery strap with about a 20,000 lb. rating is all you'd ever want.
You could visit a Tractor Supply or Norther Tool and come away with a nice little setup of everything you need to get someone out of being stuck for about $60.
A 2" recovery strap, a couple of 3/4" shackles and either a short (about 4') tree saver or an axle strap would cover you through 90% of the situations you'd find...

ok. sounds like a good deal. i mean im not making the jeep into a tow truck. now im thinking if i could have even pulled that beast out. pulled a full side bus once up hill in the winter with an S10 blazer and all i had was a 10,000lb strap. kinda superiseing what lil suv's can do with the right setup.
lol gotta love it. them 4.3L's got some *****. mine had the 4.3 vortech and could beat a 5.7 vortech and eat ricers all night and cherp tires in 2nd gear bein an automatic and stock. to bad i blew it up and junked it, woulda made a good 383 project. well.....grand cherokee + 408 stroker = ????? LOL kidding. maybe i'll put it in a dakota. MOPAR OR NO CAR
You joke about GC+408 stroker but a buddy of mine had I think it was a '98, but anyway, it was the year they put the 5.9 in it, he put a 408 stroker in it. He's on some of the dedicated Jeep forums with huge member bases and at one time, a couple of years ago, he was making the most HP of any naturally aspirated GC of anyone on the forums he was on.
I think he was planning on taking it on "Pinks" at one time, don't know what ever came of it, he was in my hunting club in Ga. and I've not had any contact with him since I moved to Fl. almost two years ago...

408 in a GC? was he pullin wheelys? i wouldent mind putting one in it but that would be alotta work and money, especially for going from a 4.0. i wouldent mind getting a 5.9 GC but then again im back to the ram. if not worse gas wise. i'll just stick with my 4.0. maybe i'll have somethin a lil meaner come tax season. 5.9 GC is in consideration. the 4.0 will just be the gas savin runabout. the 5.9 would be a weekend toy
