Default Wheel Backspacing Help

Which is better choice for putting 31x10.5-15 tires on a 95 Wrangler S 4wd, 15x8 wheels with 4" or 4.75" backspacing?

Any help be nice since satan aka my girlfriend won't leave me along about getting new wheels & tires to go with her superlift superride 1-1/2" lift kit which is turning out to be a dumber idea then when i tried to run up a open door (Jack Daniels was involved don't ask).

the least amount of backspacing is the best for the durability of the other drivetrain components.

i hope this jeep has the 4.0 and at least 3.54 gears or you wont be going anywhere fast. 1.5 inches isnt enough lift for 31" tires without rubbing during suspension flexing encountered in off road situations. adding long shackles would make a 1.5 inch, 31 inch tire combo work better.

The rubbing during suspension flex on trail isn't a problem that i need to worry about since the only off-roading she does is driving up her parents driveway which her mom's honda accord does without a problem. The wrangler use to belong to her dad who last year had the 2.5L pulled an 4.0L dropped in after the 2.5L quit at 350K, i'm not sure if he changed anything else.

you wont need to change the gearing, cuz the wrangler S with a 4 banger came stock with 4.11 gears. so that means that it is capable of turning 33" tires now that you have a 4.0 with no problems, however to clear that big of tires you will need a 4" lift. so if you use the 1.5 lift stick with 31" tires.

I original was going to put a 3" - 4" lift & 33's but since she doesn't go off-roading it seamed to be pointless.

good call. theres alot more to a big lift than there is to a 1.5" one.

like dropped trans case, extended brake lines, dropped pitman arm, longer sway bar links, wear on the u joints, spring wedges etc etc. and cost of lift and tires.

1.5" Lift w/ (4) Shocks & 1 Replacement Steering Stabilizer = $700
-
(5) 15x8 Steel Wheels & 31x10.5-15 Tires Mounted & Balanced = $1,000
-
(2) Hella H4 Headlamps = $80
-
Total Cost w/ S&H $2,000
