Default Question about 258/4.2L I6

What problems if any should i expect to have with AMC 258?

I found a 90 Wrangler Islander 4.2L 3-Speed Automatic that thinking about buying but i'd like to know more about 258 before i buy it.

its a hella good strong engine with very low rpm torque curve. it only puts out about 110 HP though. just like the 4.0 it tends to leak at the rear main seal. also that year had a Carter 2bbl carb and if you have problems with it, you better have a good carb tuner or you will never figure out how to make it run right.

Bone33 your like a Jeep dictionary.

I don't care to much about HP rating since torque is what makes you move. The link below covers how to fix the idle problem the Carter 2bbl carb is know for, well at least to owners of wranglers with AMC 258 that have Carter 2bbl carb.

Thanks for info, Mike
