jeep valve train taping need advise
hi i have an 1989 jeep 4.L has an valve tap at idle up to 1500 rpm that i can hear . i changed the oil no change so i took the valve cover of checked the push rods 9 dont move 2 barly 1 has some play im not sure if it is the valve spring or the lifter makes the nose very clear when i let of the gas . has good power just hte noise i statred it with the cover off all looks ok up down up down . do u have to remove the head to replace the lifter. any advice would be great thanks

No you don't have to replace the head for the valve lifter or pushrod.
You should simply take the rocker off. You will want to adjust the valves to specs. You will have to look further in a manual for torque procedures. You said that one valve was stuck but I don’t think that is the problem. I think the valve spring is doing it’s job. You shouldn’t be able to push it like you are trying to do.
The fact that there is some play means they need adjustment and assuming that this motor has the mounting stud per each rocker it can be adjusted. I am not sure of this motor without seeng it. If you can take a picture would help as well as buying a manual.
