Default Transmission question

My friend at work has a 98 wrangler 4.0 automatic. When it is cold and she leaves the parking lot, trans. dropes out of gear for a few seconds then back in. It does it a couple times until it warms up. It doesn't alway do it, just when it is colder out. Any advise on this would be appreciated. Thanks....

When it drops out of gear, does the engine rev up? How cold is it there?

Ok, that's not really that cold. She has the Toyota trans AW4, there should be a cable coming up from the trans to the throttle body. This cable controls line pressure rise in the trans. You can try to adjust the cable so that it pull on it tighter, this will raise line pressure and may help with the flared shifts. To make it tighter, it has a nut on each side of the bracket it is connected to, should be either a 12mm or 14mm nut. Adjust the cable so that it is moving away from the throttle body, this will tighten up on it. Hope this helps.

Sorry, been very busy. You can get it too tight, but it won't hurt anything. You will know if you have it too tight because it will engage hard when you put it in drive or reverse.
