Default Display says "Rear gate is open" But it's not

I installed a new tailgate on my neighbors 03 Jeep Liberty this weekend. Problem is, the display says the rear gate is open, and is leaving the dome light on, and giving an audible signal. Everything worked just fine, before we swapped tailgates, and when we did it, we used the old handle, being that the body shop scarfed up the new one with there sander. Everything seems adjusted perfectly too, the rear glass works like it’s supposed to, nothing at all seems out of alignment. From what little info I can find, it seems that something in the handle/latch mechanism signals that the gate is closed. I see nothing on the body (like a momentary switch) that would register the gate being closed. So how does the BCM determine the gate is shut. Also, does it differentiate between the glass, and the tailgate? (What I mean is, is it saying the actual tailgate is open, or the glass?)
