Cruise Control issues - no light
Hey guys and gals,
My girlfriend has an '04 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and about 140k on it. This last week she told me that she was having problems with her cruise control. We jumped in it and took it for a quick cruise. Cruise light came on and worked perfectly for several miles, then it acted like she tapped the brakes or hit the cancel button. She tried hitting resume, and set several times and it didnt respond. She then tried turning the cruise off and I watched the cruise light go off on the dash. She then tried to turn the cruise back on and the light wouldnt come on again. She tried several times to turn it back on but the light never turned on. We even turned off the highway and let it set for a few moments and still nothing. Her A/C and climate controls all work perfectly throughout the issue and I check the notorious vacuum line on the cruise control servo and everything looked good.
Any thoughts? Thanks for the help!

Suspecting that it was the brake switch I pressed in on the button to the switch. It clicked once and it no longer made contact with the brake pedal. I pulled it out several clicks and we took another ride. We drove several miles and the cruise control didnt cut out once. I am not entirely convinced that this will resolve the issue as the cruise light wouldnt even come back on earlier. But I will let her drive it next week and we will know monday morning whether it truly has fixed it.
How about air bags? Ever get an air bag light?
I've found the two biggest culprits at fault when the cruise stops working or intermittently works is vacuum loss or the clock spring going out, the latter of which will almost always effect the air bag system as well...

No never any air bag light. I also have a '93 dakota thats cruise control works very intermittently. It will work just after starting up, but then will very spiractically accelerate and deccelerate and finaly stop and I wont be able to set it again. Sometimes if I wait several miles I can set it again but still has the accelerate/deccelerate issues. I had the vacuum checked and its good and I have checked all the vacuum lines that I can find and they are all good as well. I will check the brake switch on the dakota as well and see if that helps.
She took the Jeep to go get groceries tonight. She said that she turned on the 45 mph road and it worked the whole way to the highway, once on the highway she set cruise at 70mph and it would only work for a few seconds then act like she hit cancel. She then turned the cruise off and back on and the light behaved correctly. But again would only work for a few seconds all the way to the store. Once she got out of the store she tried setting the cruise once again on the highway and it worked at 70mph all the way home and again on the 45mph road to the house. I have no idea where to turn next on this one. Seems like adjusting the brake switch out corrected the cruise light on the dash. But now will somtimes only work for a few seconds spiratically. Is there a standard for adjusting the brake switch?
ok another update. Its been close to 90 this last weekend and the cruise worked flawlessly all weekend. So warm weather is proven to correct the issue. Could it be a Servo since it was just the cruise light not coming on and the brake switch fixed that apparently, then it wouldnt set?
