Sounds like you're hardcore. Maybe I'm mistaken about the strength on the FDS vs the RDS......

you're running a shorter front drive shaft as your rear shaft? ...

Acually the front shaft is longer than the rear. I must agree with Illxj That the front axle and shaft are up to it. I plow snow with my 01 Cherokee and I do stuff I really shouldn't be doing, but it just keeps going.

Yeah it is longer, my typo. In your 01 are you running the 30/35 axles or the 30/8.25 axles? Since I have been driving Jeeps people gripe about how weak the 35 is but in my 86 I never had an issue with it. They also complained about the vacuum disco on the 30 but I found it was a very easy axle to work on and provided me with an easy way to have 2WD low by disconnecting the front axle. You could also weld the gears on that axle and the disco would still allow it to free wheel when needed.
Had the 8.25 in my 2KXJ but it was more the wifes so I never got to play with it. My 05 Unlimited is all mine.....

I have an 01 with the 8.25. Every thing has been great wiyh it other than the springs being shot, but thats from me beating on it. I plow snow all winter, so I just put in some 3 inch lift front coils. Come spring I want to add a leaf to the back. The last truck I had I just took a spare main leaf and cut it half way up the shackle eye. It's like a budget military wrap secondary leaf spring. worked great. I tow a trailer behind that Jeep most of the summer so those springs a SHOT. Spring bumper is only 1.5 to 2 inches from rear springs.

The concern that I heard about running on the front driveshaft only is that you'll stretch the transfer case chain.... is this true?
