Default Shadow Racecar

I race a 93 Dodge Shadow, 2.5, auto tranny, non-turbo on a 1/2 mile circle track. I was wondering if anybody has any realistic tips of how to get more power? It's a drag racing against the cavaliers when they can go out and buy an aftermarket computer box for nothing. Are there any computer modules or chips available for my car? Any tips or tricks for gears? Any site to point me in the right direction? Any help would be great!

Use the DOHC head from Neons, it will lend itself to upgrades better than the 2.2/2.5 stock heads. Search the net for more info, there are a bunch of sites with instructions and write ups.

non-turbo, 2 valves per cylinder, auto trannys... thats the gist of it... Now, I have been able to do some little mods to get more power. I have used tips from Gary Donovan's page, as well as some things from Matt Karl's page as well. We also made a little contraption to get more gas to the motor. We got a water temperature sensor and brazed it onto a coffee can. We then freeze water in the can and freeze it, that way when we race, the computer thinks that its freezing outside and allows more gas. Thats all thats been done to it, so again, any information at all would be a great help.

As far as the neon heads go... arent there different types of heads for different years? What would be a good place to go for that kind of stuff?

Oh yeah, here's the car...

oh yeah, also, no porting or polishing...

We are a low-budget race team as well, so money could be an issue..

and with the fwd website... they mostly sell turbo things, so that site didnt seem very useful...

sorry for the rambling...

Do a mpfi setup then. Use a stock turbo or flex fuel intake and wire the injectors up. You should see a big difference.

Here some reading on getting air into a tbi

Some talk about heads and cams

Also remember shadow came with a 3.0 sohc motors.
Also still buy a hooker header for 2.5/2.2s.

Perhaps you can help me then. You see, I am only 19, and still somewhat new to this computer-fancy-abbreviated stuff, haha...

As far as air to the engine, I got a standard air box for my shadow and cut the inside all up and blocked all of the places where air can escape beside the main hole for the throttle body.

I have told my dad before about the MPI setup, but I am oblivious to it all. For example, can you ONLY use a Mexican car? I guess that I would need the watered down version for it.

I greatly appreciate the help and the sites you sent me, but I just dont seem to fully understand all of it. If you'd be willing to put up with my ignorance, then I'd give you major kudos for life! haha

I heard that this will greatly lower compression and will actually make the car run worse rather than better?

Of all the threads I haveread about the swap nobody mentioned any loss of power or their car running worse. The crossflow head design used on the Neon enginewould produce more power than just about any mod you could do to the stock head. Even if you are limited to 2 valves per cylinder the Neon SOHC is still better than the stock 2.2/2.5 head.

I'm only 21 so don't make me feel to old.

You can get the mpfi setup running with the stock tbi wiring. You run the 4 injectors into the stock 1 injector. It then just fires all 4 at once. Which is not Ideal but it works.
This cardomain tells you how to do it.
