Default spirit transmission compatability

Hi guys,

I have a Dodge Spirit 1994 that has the A670 3 speed automatictransmission coupled with the V6 3.0 L Mitsu engine. This transmission has recently been really acting up: I would try to drive down the interstate, and the thing would suddenly decide to shift to neutral (gear selector still in drive) and the engine race, and the only way to get powr back to the wheels would be to shut the engine off, cycle the gear selector, and then restart it. I know that this trans has issues (Im using ATF + 3), and I think the only way to repair the vehicle is to replace the tranny.

Now I know a person that has a Dodge Spirit 1992 with a 2.5 L Inline 4 Mitsu engine. The tranny in this thing is a A413 3 speed auto with no overdrive (mine has no OD either). He doesnt use this car anymore, and told me I could get the tranny for about 100 bucks (This tranny has no probs that I can see yet).

Now my question is, would this transmission be compatable with my engine? Is there anyway I could fit this trany into my car? I really dont want to junk this car (the engine's got no probs whatsoever),but gonna have to unless I can find an alternative.

Thanks for any help!

Sad to say there is no such thing as a mitsu 2.5 motor in that spirit. No the trans won't work with the 3.0 since it won't bolt up. They are the same inside but the 3.0 would have the beefer parts than a non turbo 413. 3.0 never shared transmission with any other other motor that chrysler used other than any 3.0.

To take a guess at what happen to your trans is the filter is/was plug and it doesn't get any fluid to the transmission for it to move until you shut it off. I've had it happen to me and a friend. Trans would stop working.

ah thanks speedy... im gonna check the filter myself when I get some time... I did see that the fluid was pretty dirty, so it could be a clogged filter, but I think that there is some heavier internal damage inside the thing...

not being able to bolt up that tranny sucks though... Oh well thank you for the idea
