Default 1990 Spirit Restore Question

I've got the Sprit in the garage -- 1990 with 2.5 L 4cyl. Great car, but trans leaking like a sieve. So I am rebuilding the trans and got to looking at the motor. It has about 200,000 on it and wondered if I can give it a "minimal" rebuild (main/rod bearings, rings, hone, timing belt, head gasket)while its in the car?

It looks like the oil pan is clear enough of obstructions to get the crank out, head and pistons should come out the top. Timing belt should be accessible.

Has anyone done this, or have any thoughts?

Thank you,
Lee

If your pulling the trans just undo the last mount and pull it all as one. I much easier in the long run.

Okay -- I got 'em both out. Engine is on a stand. Any one have a suggestion for which Gasket Set -- I see Master Sets that include cams (I should not needall that, right?) for around $400. But I was hoping to get by for a lot less. I will try to "mix-n-match" kits and avoid duplication. I'm thinking of auto-zone -- any online choices?
