Default tranny still good after fire?

My auto tranny is shot in my 91 Acclaim. There is a LaBaron for sale locally for a couple hundred bucks that has had an engine fire. I was wondering if anyone knows if a tranny will survive an engine fire. Im thinking that the only problems will be with the external wire leads melting. I dont know how they lead into the transmission and if I will be able to remove them and replace them with my own. Anyone with any engine fire experience?
