Default 86 Aries Defrost problem

I have a problem with my car that has been there ever since I bought it. No matter what button I push, the heater won't change where it blows the air out of the vents. It is stuck blowing 90 percent on the floor and a little on the windshield. The fan control works, as does the heat control. I was told the air controls are vaccum controlled? I can't find any vaccum leaks in the dash.

It is -25 C where I live, so I need this to work, how do I change this manually?

Thanx,
Ian

Does you car have A/C?

If it is, it sounds like that vacuum line or the actuator needs to be looked at. The heater control uses vac. to switch location on an A/C car. I'm not sure if a non-A/C car is the same or not????

I think it probably needs replacing, but I don't want to pull my whole dash apart hunting for a vacuum leak. Is there a way I can just manually move the actuator to set it to defrost all the time? Also, where is the actuator located?

Thanx,
Ian

Check under your hood. There should be two vac lines going into the firewall to the left and down from the heater hoses. A white one and a black one. Make sure these are attached to something. Its odd, because defrost is the default position if something goes wrong - its a safety thing.

Oh, and its the same for both AC and non AC cars. Only the auto climate controled cars used a slightly differnt method.
