Default 1986 Dodge 600, WHAT TRANSMISSION OIL DO I USE IN A 3SPD AUTO? DEX / ATF+

I have a 1986 Dodge 600 Convertible has 90,000 original km on it.

I have to replace the pan .....old one i rusted right out leaking fluid.

I am having the transmission completely drained.

I Want to know what transmission oil to use in this car. I get different answers from different people & garages.

The manual says this exactly:

"Selection of Lubricant - Use MOPAR ATF Plus (Automatic Transmission Fluid Type 7176) or fluids of the type labeled DEXRON II Automatic Transmission Fluid."- owners manual

BUT........... ATF+4 is synthetic now and says it's backwards compatible.
And Dexron has now gone to DEXRON VI which says its backwards compatible.

Some shops are telling me to use DEXRON III but I hear from ALLPAR.COM
that GM now longer controls how the fluid is made and u'd be better just using the new stuff cuz it's backwards compatible.

A shop I talked to said we use Dexron III.........and others say use ATF+4

No one has said much about Dexron VI it's fairly new.

I have even called the chrysler dealers & i get different answers.

WHAT DO I DO????????

I use Dex II in my K and it can still be found where I am. I have Valvoline MaxLife in the 84 Chrysler and its fine its been at least 20k since I serviced it.
