Default Infamy?

Why is it said the K-cars live in infamy for? We had two Shadows growing up and they were good cars (90 and 93). Weren't these cars the result of Lee Lacoca and pulled Chrysler out of trouble in the early 1980s? I thought they were still going into the mid 90s then the line up got an overhaul (Neon, Breeze, Cirrus, etc.)?

I don't think the Shadows could have really (directly anyway) pulled Chrysler up out of anything, considering they lost money on each car that was sold..

The K did pull Chrysler out of near extinction, they were made from 81-89, it was the Spirit that replaced the K in 90. Dont forget the K platform also gave birth to the Caravan, the first gen Caravans were based on the K platform. It was the Caravan that not only launched the current mini van but also helped Chrysler out of the financial hole.

I'm aware of the vans, those were a big success and the first ones up to 1986 are now officially Classics and I welcome them to be Classics. They set a trend. To this day if I wanted a van I would go to the people who invented the mini van...Chrysler.

I hav found from some research that the K-Car platform was extended and over used in the early 90s and late 1980s...they started to lose money on Dodge Shadows about 1991 I think.

Its good to see some one else thinks the same way I do, the 80's rides are starting to come into their own as collectible, though many people still scratch their heads when they see my K or Civic at a show. People like you and I will be laughing all the way to bank, because we have the foresight to start scooping up these gems up while they are still cheap and unwanted. I purchased my K for $700 it appraised at $4800, the Civic was bought for $400 appraised at $2500.This summer I missed out on a 83 Omni with 32k on the clock, it looked like it never left the showroom for $2500.

I stopped looking at the prices of them 22 years, I thought they were sweet then, but could never afford one. I wanted to make a clone out of the 83 Omni I was driving back then, but it wouldn't be the same. I cant remember the last time I saw one. It was a long time ago.

You thinkin' bout doing this?? Check out this 2.2 Turbo K coupe....I dont think the Supra even got to 3rd gear!!

In case you didn't see the clock..... the K pulled a 10.53 and what looks like 130mph..

A local junkyard has a rare Dodge Charger 2.2. I think its the SHELBY!!! Complete minus one front fender. They also have one of the hard to find Chryslers with the recessed headlights. I think it's either a Lebaron GTS or a Dodge Lancer? They were only used for about 2 years in 1987 and 1988. Pics of both cars are available and will post later. Yes, the yard gave me permission.

A DODGE SHADOW SHELBY SOLD AT BARRETT JACKSON THIS YEAR FOR $8,000! THE DAYS IS COMING!

For those for you, like I, who are K-Car nuts, here some clips we would enjoy. LOVE the Shadow commericla and its FULL LENGTH!

Plus, the CARAVAN was also the car featured in the hit movie trilogy Toy Story (1 & 2). Modern Mopars are seen in third movie.

Thats your K-Car news today.
