90 dodge spirit es starting problems
I have a 90 dodge spirit es with a 3.0l in it. When I go to start the car, it will start up and then die. I go to restart it and it will not start but you will smell a strong fuel smell. If I hold the gas pedal to the floor it will start up everytime but as soon as I take my foot off the gas it will die. I have to keep reveving it up until it goes through its initial startup where all the lights go out (check engine, oil, and air bag lights). After these lights go out it will run fine until the next time you turn it off and try to restart it. I have also noticed that if you go through the above process and get it running and then turn the car off and imediately restart it then it will restart normally, but if you let it cool some then it won't and you will have to go through the above process again to get it to start. Thanks for any help.
Could be the o-rings on your fuel injectors are going bad. I had that happen to my shadow and it ran very rich and was sloppy running on start-up. But then it ran ok after it got warmed up.(Until the car died once in an intersection and i had to push it across the street). But i am just saying that could be a problem too. Or a faulty Oxygen Sensor.
I had the exact same problem last week with mine. I removed the throttle body and cleaned the hell out of it, including the passages for the TPS and so on. After that, she ran perfect again. I hope that helps you. PS...double check your air filter too.
