I've already tried tightening the lights in their socket and looking for frayed wires, but to no avail. I'm not sure where to look to see if the lights are properly grounded, so any help would be appreciated. BTW, the front lights/cornering lamps work fine.

It turns out that the brake pedal was not returning completely after it was applied (1/8th of an inch). I noticed a very slight grinding noise yesterday and pulled up on the brake pedal....it solved the problem. My e34 is definately more durable.
