600 SE-Timing Problem
I have a 1987 Dodge 600 SE. The timing belt peeled off 10 teeth the other day under the crank shaft-mileage 140G. I have done everything correctly (I think) to have the car start for me after the repair. I lined up the Intermediate shaft gear mark with the Crank shaft dimple. I "centered" the cam gear also. The plane of the head tilts back so as a precursor you are to place the plastic cover back on then look through it. The oval was lined up perfectly. In the view window" of the transaxle it is supposed to be lined up on the "mark". Here is the thing-there are 2 marks. The one I used first was just a vertical indented line-"not-painted". It wouldn’t start. I could hear it cranking over just fine. Next I had noticed that about an inch over to the left of this mark on the torque convertor was another mark and it had yellow paint around in so I set this at “0” and still no start. Still a "No-Go! I'm getting aggravated. Please help.-Tim

I wish I could help, but I only have the 6 cylinder K Car Chilton. It would be worth your while to go to a part store and purchase a manual. On the 3.0L model it says there are 3 marks on the cam gear and 1 is painted. It says to use the painted mark for timing, but it could be totally different for the 4 cylinder. A Chilton manual has pictures and specific directions. It could probably get you through it in 10 minutes or less. At least the 2.2L or 2.5L is free-wheeling. If you were off a couple teeth on the 2.0L or 2.4L, you'd be replacing the valves or worse.
