Default Exhaust leak a good thing?

I started my car today and put my hubcaps back on. I saw exhaust smoke in my face on the rear left wheel. No big deal right, but when i checked where it was coming from it was coming from behind the cat. When i reved it the car sounded like it had a turbo. The whistling sound that they make because of the leak. I was just wondering should i let the exhaust stay the way it is or fix it. you tell me what you think i should do.

Depends on your state. If your state doesn't do emmissions inspections then fix it at your leisure. I drove my car for over 6 months with a blown flex hose and no ill effects except when I got it fixed I lost alot of power (Due to higher back pressure)

No as far as I know my state does not have emissions inspections. One reason being my friend has a straight piped Cavilier with nothing but a race muffler on it. He has not even been pulled over for it, (it is a wonder he hasnt because it is very loud). I see a new part on ebay for my car that would fix the leak, but it would cost 65.99 (cause it is a Cat also). Thanks for the response.

Or I might just gut the Cat and put it back on.

sorry that it didnt turn out too well but you can see where the arrow is pointing. Right along the seam of where the cat touches the pipe.

I'd say just hit it with a welder and plug the hole that way. As to what I drive.... Look in the classic cars section you'll see pics of my resto ride. I've always been a fan of the K cars (Trying to find a cheap 600 conv. with a 2.2 turbo right now). And I am working on a rebuild of the engine of a Mitsu/Chrys bastard child. The predecessor of the Eclipse/Laser/Talon known as the Crhysler Conquest. And my daily driver is an '03 Sentra LOL. (BTW my resto as you'll see in the pics is a '64 Dodge 440 50th Anniversary edition)
