Default Shadow transmission cable?

As you all probably know, my 93' Shadow has been having transmission problems for the past few months. A common thing it will do, is it wont down-shift, and when you go to pull away from stop signs and red lights, its gutless, and the engine works hard to move the car. My friends dad said that someone he knew owned a Dodge Spirit, that had the same problem, it would'nt downshift, and he went to drive, it would barely move, he said that it was a cable, connecting the engine and tranny, that had corroded, telling the tranny to do the wrong thing at the wrong time, he replaced it for about $100 (labour too I guess) and the transmissions works fine now. I looked through the Haynes manual of the Dodge Shadow, theres a cable called "the gear kick-down cable" I dunno if this is the one he's talkin about or not.

Has anyone heard or have this happen, anything that I should know, just say. Thanks
