Its hard to say, It could be somethin as simple a fuel pump going out. Its very possible that you could bring it into a shop and they take a look at it and diagnos the problem right off; yet at the same time it could be something harder to figure out and cost more on your end for them to spend the time troubleshooting it. I'm not sure if on this year of car you can hook up a diagnostic machine or not, none of my Shadow's have the diagnostic port (as far as I know and have been told; have to use the check engine light to see errors rather than a diagnostic tool), Which is nice because if you can figure out how its free ;-) lol. Keep us posted on what they do find out, and wish ya the best of luck.

It has been put on that machine before, I saw it, unless they were lying and it wasen't the same diagnostic thing you are talking about. I will let you know what happens and thank you so very much. The person that maintains/works on the car is currently hospitalized.
Thanks...

Bassboy, I hope you are here. I got my car towed and they said it's the timing belt. Also, oil leak and the alternator belt. Could THAT have made my car stall like it did?!! Again, thanks for your input.

Absolutely Diana the alternator belt breaking will stall the car. I had a friend whose alternator belt when he was driving, he said it was acting funny. He said his radio wasnt workin too well after it broke and he didnt know it broke. The timing belt also could be a problem. I guy a grade lower than me had the timing belt on his car actually flip over in the case and the car ran like sh!#. So it could be both or just one.

1994Shadowman,
Thanks, they replaced the timing belt (and said that is what made it stall like that) and said the alternator belt needed replacing as well, they sealed an oil leak (which I already knew about) and the total cost was $400.00!!! (including tow) too expensive for an old car, most k car owners do the work themselves.
I didn't expect an answer when I came here, so before I go and get a bite to eat, thank you Bassboy and 1994Shadowman for your responses!

No Problem, yes the timing belt can make the car stall. You are right most k-car owners do the work themselves, it cost me about 20 bucks (plus a haynes manual) to change the timing belt on my 91 shadow convertible.. took me about an hour and i did it in the parking lot where the it had broke. I knew how to set the timing and how to change the belt from a previous engine rebuild but wanted to make sure I had it right. 400 isnt too bad considering the cost of labor, and the tow..most places charge 50-65 an hour for labor these days and usually around 45-60 for a tow. Glad you got it fixxed though.

Bassboy, yes, someone I know could have fixed it for nothing, but is in the hospital. It is to your credit that you can fix your own car, most people don't realize how lucky they are to have a 'mechanic' friend.
I could not leave that car there where it stalled. And, once it's fixed, it just keeps on going.... I wouldn't trade it for ANY car!
Thank you so much for your help, really appreciate it!

The K cars are good faithful cars. Treat them right and they'll run forever. Do the regular maintenance (Oil changes, filter changes) and rarely do they give problems. I had one that liked to blow head gaskets but never once did it die on me. (I got head gasket changes down to an ART on that old 600). I had actually thought about replying a few times here but every time these 2 guys had said nearly exactly what I would have said. Good luck and feel free to ask anything.

Sanguinius,

It's good to hear they will last, and, it DOES need a tune-up. So, thanks for reminding me and for your post.
Another thing it does (for a couple months now) is makes noise when I turn. Like, whenever I make a turn it sounds like..ta ta ta ta ta ta ta...
what is that?

Thanks for your reply, and I hope it does run forever! I am glad I found this fourm.

most likely the alternator went out. when this happened, you were running on pure battery power with no charging system. when the battery finaly went dead, so did the car. as you were stalling the oil pressure would have dropped and the light would have come on. replace your alternator and charge your battery. my bet is, you'll be back on the road.
