Default engine removal question

I have a 1987 Lebaron 2.5L with a broken rod (from overheating). I'm in the process of taking the old engine out and putting in a used one (not rebuilt). All is done but the mounts and the tranny disconnection. My question is how do i disconnect the tranny and torque converter without ruining either. What is the average lifespan (mileage wise) for the 2.5L.

Drop the oil pan if you havent already, this isnt a nessisary thing to do but does make it easier. there is a plate near the bottom side of the motor by the trans i think it has 2 or 3 10mm bolts. from there you will need to spin the motor until you see a bolt, there will be four of them, 18mm bolts, use a wrench or impact to get them off, either will work a rachet doesnt do the job that well. As for mileage its hard to say, I had a 2.2L with who knows how many miles on it (was a junkyard motor in the car that i bought) and it had a ventalated piston, replaced piston, rings, rod bearings, gaskets, etc. total bottom end rebuild, it lasted 3 days before it threw a rod, i belive the bearing was put in wrong or the oil pump failed. my daily driver has the 2.2l and has about 149,250 miles on it and is still strong. my fiances car has the 2.5l in it and has about 103k miles on it, still running strong though I had to replace the timing belt at 101k miles. Hope this helps!

I had a 91 shadow that had 189k on the 2.5 when the body rotted out from under it. only work ever done was routine. who knows how long it would have gone. I also had a spirit with a 2.5 that locked up at 88k. moral of the story.........hard to say what the average life span is.

thanx for both of your help. But I have a change of plans being as how my buick's engine went bad (finally). And I will be rebuilding that in class (because it's harder and I feel i'll learn more). And the Lebaron I'll see if one of the other students wants to rebuild it. As for now I have a 85 buick lesabre V8 with a strong motor but a crappy body. But point A to point B is all I need. So maybe by the end of the semester the lebaron will be rebuilt and good as new, almost.
