Default Tranny Issues...

Ok guys here is the problem. I was on my way home from school today and my tranny was acting funny. When i took off from a stop sign, the car would go, relax, go, relax. But when it shifted into second or third, there was no problem. I does this in reverse a little bit also. when i looked under the car at my house I saw that the radiator support was wet. i wipped it with a paper towel and it was red. There seems to be a hose connecting the radiator to the tranny. What is that for, cooling i guess. But I am going to get it flushed this weekend. Also the fluid level was fine though. Somebody help.

So whats the question?

Sounds like your radiator, and/or hoses, and/or clamps are shot.

Some models use the radiator as a cooler for the trans.

I hate to tell you this, but if your fluid level is good, and your shift problem is in reverse and 1st gear, your transmission is probably giving up the ghost. If it is a 604, you can bet it will get worse. Sorry, very common tale.

First of all Welcome to DF Gramps. My tranny is an A413 3 speed auto. Some more good news, i just found out my car has a junkyard tranny. It has yellow letters and numbers on the side of it. It says something like 87D... I asked my mechanic and he said it is probably a 87 tranny. In a '94 Car!! But as for the tranny it has been behaving again with no problems. But there is one more thing. I had the hood up and i was hearing this clicking sound. Like electrical shorting. It sounded like it was coming from the coil. I replaced the coil and it still makes the noise in the same place. Where could it be coming from? It really starts clicking when the rad. fan starts. I also had the bulb out and looked at it at night. Didnt see any sparks. Again where could it be coming from?

Hey 1994ShadowMan, This sounds really dumb, However I have had something like this stump me before. It will really make you feel dumb too. look around the engine bay really good for a loose wire loom or a zip-tie end that could be hitting the acc. belt, a pulley, the fan motor, something like that. make a very similar sound as an electrical shorting. hope this may help some.

Ok thanx Matt i will look for that. I would have never thought of that. But, the sound is very random it is not like a constant sound. Sometimes it pauses and sometimes it is clicking right after another.
