Performance mods, chip etc.
Re: exhaust
You will actually lose power on these engines (the N/a ones especially) if you lose too much backpressure, but when it comes to performance exhausts I always go the custom fabrication route at stead of "kits".
Re: chips
Forget about chips for these cars, however some people may be able to do a custom cal/eeprom burn for you (i believe Donovan used to do them for several engines but not sure if he went as new as 93).
Re: K&N
The drop in K&N filters are worthless for performance, they give you no benifit over stock and are only sold for people who want a reusible air filter. Cone filters are where you get the higher flow, due to surface area issues, and that translates into a performance gain. Cones don't have to be K&N style however, for awhile I was running a paper element cone filter (they're cheap and last no more or less a stock paper filter). The thing you have to remeber about cotton (K&N style) elements is that they must be reoiled or they will dry out and literally decompose and leave you with all kinds of holes. Also stay away from the cheap rip off brands like APC, they don't hold up worth sh_t and decompose prematurely regardless how well you take care of them.
