Default RE: E-Brake

I've had similar ebrake problems, a summer or two ago I was doing body work on the Dynasty, had it up on jackstands for a few months and by habbit had the ebrake on and forgot about the brake being on.

Finish the bodywork, release the ebrake- pass rear brakes were siezed up and the car wouldn't move. Gravel driveway so I couldn't use traction to break it free by trying to drive the car around.

The other thing that can occur, is those springs used in drum brakes will get rusty and snap apart. When I finally pulled the drums both sides had all (and I mean all) but the hold down springs busted and mia.

Don't forget to get your drums resurfaced or replaced.

First off I think you mean the left rear and not the right rear, unless the rear drum brake cars are different for some unexplained freak reason, anylocationon a car is referenced from the drivers seat.

I had nothing but problems from my '88 Daytona Shelby Z when it came to the E-brake. It never would release after being applied and if I used it I had to reach behind the left rear wheel and pull or beat the mechanism to get it to disengage fully if any at all. I had all the rotors and pads replaced and the rear calipers replaced and had the place check the E-brake release and they told me it was fine.....it wasn't as I found by trying it and it doing the same. The K-car designed E-brake sucks on all the various different versions.

For rear disc they change on after 89 with an internal ebrake drum. Your 88 would have a skerw caliper that are worhless.
