Been a few years without a Dodge....!
Its been a few years since I’ve had a Dodge truck, I do miss the 5.7 HEMI 1500 Quad Cab! Living in Thailand there’s not too many interesting vehicles around but a friend came across this and I bought it almost instantly. Its got plenty of character and needs a bit of attention!
Can you help me identify it? I was originally told it’s a D100, but looking at (photos of) it and doing some research, to me it looks more like a W300 with a stepside longbed? What do you think? It’s a 4x4 so that means it should be a W rather than a D, if I’m correct? The overall size of it looks to be bigger than the D100 but I’ve not had them side by side to compare. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/dodgefo...81124cbe4d.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/dodgefo...4a49af2368.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/dodgefo...a0a35533ae.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/dodgefo...39f4ff90e7.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/dodgefo...9bf5ef3310.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/dodgefo...250241d0b5.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/dodgefo...d412b95f01.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/dodgefo...90b30b9293.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/dodgefo...555682511c.jpg Questions: What axles and transfer case are used on this truck? What ratio’s are the transfer case and diffs? The wish list includes; Find an engine and gear box! Strip down to chassis, sandblast, protective coating, and any repairs needed Sort out the body work and get it into primer, undecided on final colour yet, quite like the greeny-blue Overhaul axles & diffs as needed, sand blast casings and protective coating Overhaul transfer box as needed, change prop shaft UJ’s New electrics throughout, twin battery system with solar to keep it topped up Sort interior, keeping it classic (new audio, some engine control tech) Wheels, I’d like a set that can take some enormous tyres, and another set of road wheels with dually rears (if it is a W300) Winch options, hydraulic from PTO? Discs front and rear, when I look at coil overs or air suspension. Good to have a Dodge truck again, can't wait to drive it! ..but that might be some time yet! |

I'm no real expert, but the engine mounts aren't as you'd find in a V8 model...
It likely had a Cummins diesel. The grille, I think, might be early seventies, before 1975 anyway. Overall length would be the same as the D100 long bed, I'd reckon. |
That's a Dana 60 rear end, front end might be Dana 44, brakes on the rear look to be 12" x 3", so the front ones would be huge as well, you don't need discs.

It's a W300 according to the data plate. The front end looks like mid 1970's but Chrysler reused older tooling for export vehicles. It's definitely a gasser because it has the vacuum booster for the brakes. This truck could have had a big block. That may be why the engine and transmission are missing but the transfer case is still in it. That bed was used for decades.

A bit more investigating at the weekend, the axles look to be a Dana 70 closed knuckle at the front, and a Dana 70 at the rear. I removed the rear drive shafts and the splines (35) look to be in great condition, so my hopes are the diff isn't too bad either! Thinking for the rear I'll do the wheel bearings as a precaution anyway, clean it all out, measure the backlash and diff setup, and see how it runs. The front I'll do the CV joints and wheel bearings, check the diff over and give it a go. Prop shafts I'll do the UJ's anyway.

What are you going to do for a motor/trans? Need to determine what was in it.

The nice thing about that model is anything from a slant 6 to a 440 will fit right in there. |
True but those motor mounts look funky.
