How High Can You Go?
You can run 116 or VP Import (~118) on the stock engine, but it'll do you very little or no good.
A higher octane doesn't mean the fuel is more powerful, in fact it means almost the opposite: Higher octane fuels are harder to ignite.
Cars with High Compression, High Boost and/or advanced timing require high octane fuel in order to combat detonation. It is the properties of the engine that produce more horsepower, not the properties of the fuel (at least not with gasoline, methane/nitromethane is a whole other subject).
