stant thermostat number 13788 is the replacement 180 degree for our cars. it costs $4.99 compared to the $16 that howell charges for the same thing. don't use the gasket that comes with the new thermostat, use the stock one. some people say that they've had to put notches in the gasket, but i did not have to do this, and many others did not.

I checked Advance Auto last night, the part # you have listed Amy is for a 192/195 deg. thermostat... I could not find a part # for a 180 or anything else for that matter... any ideas?? where did you get yours at?? I didn't do too much digging cause I was in a hurry, but...
that's the part number that i used at pep boys to get the 180, and its the one that everyone that gets the stant is using. try giving them part number 29788, sometimes in their computers that's what it's listed as. but the stant part number is most definetly for a 180 thermo, and has been used at many different stores.
What I did was I got a nice piece of clean plastic hose, i think around 3/8ths and shoved it down the upper rad hose almost all the way to the rad. I then siphoned out all the coolant that would come out into a clean container. Two bolts out of the t-stat housing, pull it up and hold it up. Don't let it drop or it will spill. You still lose a little but not much. Clean aream change thermo, reinstall housing, and put back in the coolant siphoned, adding water to top off.
Loss minimal, mess minimal. Eta approx 20-30 mins.

Actually, increasing the fuel does reduce engine temperatures, the richer it is the cooler it runs and the leaner it is the hotter it runs.

I think you meant to say that they ice the intake manifold and not the exhaust manifold, as icing the exhaust will not only reduce exhaust gas scavenging, it greatly increases the chance of cracking the exhaust manifold as well.
