I love it when the cars "laugh" it sounds so cool. You only need an air filter/CAI/Shortie to make em laugh too, you don't even need a BOV. Its like you let off the gas and the car's laughing at everyone.

Upon talking to Paul last night the manual calls it a "Horse Laugh" and describes what it is. Pretty hilarious actually

If your filter isn't oiled...I wouldn't use it. Which is why I ditched the stock airbox for an AEM one. All K&N filters require lubrication from their Recharge kit. I love K&N. I'll probably put a K&N CAI on my car for the Spring/Summer/Fall. If I don't just get the AEM extension pipe. No way I can do a CAI here in the winter. Shortie it is.
Yes you can use the K & N year round, see:

My Stratus because it was lowered and the K&N hung really low collected some water. So when the snow was melting and/or it was raining you could hear my engine gurgle. I don't mind switching it. I can live Just here in RI all these damned holes and swells for water to lay in...suck.

Around here we get flooding in certain spots fairly often and I haven't had that problem yet, but then again I can switch it to a short ram quite easily.

My Intake had been in my stratus for so long that I think it was fkn glued there. I couldn't have switched it if you paid me. It was an old Style K&N too no one had ever even seen it before. But the car being low, and the intake being lower (if you were eye level with the bottom of the car you could see almost half the filter chilling) caused me problems.

I also had bracket problems in my stratus (which isnt an issue for the SRT). Where the bracket in the cold because it was made out of metal would crack and the intake would scoot along the ground LOL. Amusing now...VERY aggravating then.

Ouch, that's pretty messed up.[:@] The CAI for the SRT-4 is a great solid peice and it isn't going anywhere after it's bolted up.

I've got the AEM shortie at the body shop for mine. Little silver purdy guy. Only an 8-9HP gain, but you can hear the Turbo so much better with any intake modification. And it laughs at you. I love that laugh. But I may go with the K&N CAI for the other three seasons, if I don't get the extension pipe. I'm only getting the AEM Shortie because it fits in with the price of a whole entire new stock airbox complete with yellow cardboard filter that I squished in half and flattened like a pancake. Quality

It will be far better than stock. I think that sound is more like a rattlers tail warning those that dare to come to close.
