If there is a puddle of water on the carpet or was, I would.

My Miata's carpet needed to be replaced. This happened over the summer, and yes mold WAS under the carpet. But they didn't replace it the first time...they just sucked it up with a carpet cleaner, and thought I wouldn't know. Your car will smell HORRIDLY in the summer time, and in high heat if its not replaced. Trust you me on that one. If I were you I'd stick some whiteout or something somewhere on the carpet so you know they replaced it. And read the R/O carefully. R/O's sometimes say what they did sometimes won't...depends on the honesty of the dealership you take it to.

But yes, if its been leaking that long DEFINITELY have it changed. Though it may not stink now, come summer down south when the heat hits...you'll be smelling it, and its NOT pretty trust me.

Long story - short version: Wife bought new '03 SXT two years ago - leaked on pass floor after first heavy rain. It was parked uphill (10.5 degree), as all of my other new MOPARs had been - and none of them ever leaked. Fourteen trips to the dealer later, involving twelve rental cars (on MOPAR), Chrysler contacted us last spring about a 'buy-back'... the Lemon Law! The otherwise reliable SXT, appropriately enough, was 'Solar Yellow'. As no one could find a replacement '04 (She loved the yellow!), we waited to order an '05... and up-graded to the SRT-4, which she finally got two weeks ago.

The dealer replaced door/sunroof/windshield mouldings - and carpeting - to no avail. They paid little attention to my problem description initially. I went to the dealer's while the WW area valence panel was off...the problem was obvious to me - a design fault. The fresh air intake plenum, a moulded piece, was too-low... high water flow rate, whether from rain or washing it on an uphill incline, could flow into the heater/evaporator core and out the lower vents... onto the passenger floor, as it did. A jury rigged dam failed, subsequent parts were changed in later '04 models. The new '05 SRT-4 was bone dry after a recent gully-washer; the design problem must have been corrected.

Insist that they don't leave your car idling for hours with the heater on to dry the carpet out - I caught our dealer doing that once. When the leak is repaired, they will replace the carpet - insist they change the fan motor, if the water came through the vents. Sorry for your problems... keep concise records... demand a rental car!

I had 1975 Chevy nova 4 door piece of beep in high school. When it would snow, the snow would come through the heat vent and glove box. That car wa a tank.

Well I took my car in today and so far they can't figure out where the water is coming from. They are really giving me a hard time over me wanting them to change the carpet. The guy I talked to said that there wasn't anything wrong with the carpet, even though it had been getting wet on for a month now. I really miss my car. I hope I get it back before christmas. Hy husband is buying me some goodies for it. I can't wait to see what it is.

Its okay hunn. I knew they were gonna give you hell about the carpet. Do this. Heat it up with a hair dryer for a few minutes. Once it gets hot pull it up yourself (easy to do from the front). Just enough to see underneath it, and if it smells, its moldy. Then again have your husband do it because your allergic. Tell them your allergic to mold, and dont take no for an answer. Same thing happened to me. They're gonna dick you around forever, especially because your a chick. Trust me I've dealt with my fair share of the bull****. Hopefully we BOTH have our cars by XMAS. *sigh* Almost 3 months now.

Don't take no for an answer....kick their asses!!!

Thanks Man! Your the best. They still have my car and I told them that it will be changed and if he had a problem with that then I would talk to his manager. HEEHEEEHEEE. So we shall see if they call me at work today. I hope you get your car back befor X-Mas. What a wonderful X-mas.
