Today i was driving andI shifted in second mid throttle and now itis stuck in second. The shifter will move from first to second but the car stays in second. If i put the shifter in the middle of first and second, and try to move it to third, it wont move? I also have another transmission sitting in my garage but it has a hole about the size of a quarter in the top part of the bell housing. Is this tranny usable with the hole or can i fix this hole somehow? Any ideas on how or why this happened?
i was also wondering how much power stock axels will hold before breaking if i were to be at the track with slicks?

also, in addition to the shifter itself, check the shift cables, one may have popped off preventing you from shifting. the selector would move but it wouldnt be making the tans change.
i can be driving and move the selector from first to second and nothing happens. i had my roommate get in the car and try and change the gears while i was feeling the cables on the tranny, and it all feels like its trying to move but it cant. what could be braken on the selector.
Can i use my other tranny even though it has that hole, can that hole be fixed?

while your friend was holding the clutch in (i would reccomend putting the front end up on jack stands to be sure you dont accidentally get run over), can you change the gears manually by moving where the cables attach to the trans? that will at least let you know if the problem is in your transmission or if its in the cables / selector. if some vice grips (dont make it a strength contest though) can make the trans change gears, but not moving the selector, at least youll know the transmission is ok and its only in the selector/cables.

1. sounds like the gear selector. it happens. you need it fixed.
2. slicks don't break axles. stupidity and mistakes do. that being said, stock axles are good for.....well a lot more than your probably going to throw at them. they go for $170 each or so.

I put my hand on the tranny and tried to move the smaller of the two cables and it wont move. the other one that is larger will move forward and back just fine but it stays in the same gear no matter what i do. Its on its way to the shop now to see what i broke. They are also going to check my other tranny and see if it is fixable.
About the axels,What are they rated to, stupidity and mistakes may break them but i waswondering what their breaking point is??

The shop said that it was the shift selector, What is this what does it do and where is it located. How did i break it and is there a way to prevent it from happening again?
