Default Extrude Hone...finally some head sense

Modern has started a service with extrude hone that hones and removes the flash from your stock intake manifold..I thought it was about time some one besides me brought up how much better flowing the srt-4's intake, exhaust and head can be made with not a lot of green backs...i was harking on this last year and everyone was like your smoking crack get a bigger turbo, turbo, turbo...i think ive done enought head porting and polishing on the the lil 2.4 to match the Hemi 5.7 hp for hp with out the turbo...awesome motor...turbo just makes it insane!

I have to agree there is work you could do to the head. With this particular car, the turbo would need to be changed to realize the full flow of a crossflow 4 valve, large displacement four. If you hone alone you gotta be improving it.[sm=goodidea.gif] My 1985 Daytona Turbo Z, I had .5mm over pistons, spearco intercooler, Mopar performance race ported head w/ oversize valves, Mopar computer, the stock turbo ( it was huge compared to the SRT'S), running 14psi. I raided the tranny and put all Mopar
HD syncros, bearings, shift forks, centerforce clutch. The head was probably the most significant upgrade to that motor, plus a tad bit displadcement. That car was a 13.0, 13.5 car all day. Back then the choice of rubber was Gatorbacks, 225/50-15's. One advantage that car had over the SRT, it launched like a dream. Never once did that front end ever hop, even on zero degree nights when it felt like it had nitrous. And it handled on rails man. BUT, the car was painfully crude otherwise.

So to my point, if yank the head, and open it up, then put a bigger turbo on too, the thing is gonna rip!

You've never heard of Gatorbacks??? That's like a sin. Good-fora-Year made them. Goodyear Eagle Gatorback VR's. See, back then, VR was the top rating. Dangerous when wet out, mind blowing when dry. I used to WOT third on cold days and burn smoke from both front fenders at 60mph. I had Eagle GT M&S snows for the winter, they worked good. I wish they still made them.

Had'em on my very first car I bought. A 1985 Shelby Charger. You kids have no clue how good you have it. Like Paul says, they grip was amazing dry. Even when my Pilot Sports were almost bald, they had tons more wet grip than Gators.

Only other domestic car they came production on was Corvette.

As far as the porting. Sorry andy, the other folks have photos

Topends CNC ported head

Modern Performances Extrude honed intake manifold.

You, on the other hand, have just talked about it. Sorry, andy, I'll try and answer any question you have, but if I think your shoveling it, I'm calling B.S.

You don't have ported anything.

Oh, and those vendors are

topendonline.com (they do the mopar drag srts head, I think)

modernperfomance.com

You can say that again, mine lasted about 15k. Granted I spun them alot. But they were scary in the rain after they got half worn!

My '88 Shelby Z was the same way, you could burn the tires to ash from 1st through 3rd with no sign of wheel hop at all, just smoke pouring and billowing from both front tires. On really cold nights mine would overboost like mad and peg the 15 PSI gauge. I had the Mopar Performance PCM in it but that only bumps it from the stock 7.5 to 13 PSI, but when winter came that didn't matter it was 15+PSI.
