11 years isnt too bad a run for a primarily unchanged body style. There are few cars that last longer in any form...911 for example(german cars seem to like "evolving" slowly) would be one. But our little Neon did come out in 95. It had a then impressive base 132 horsepower, trumping civics easily, and also offered a 150 hp on their sport coupe. It replaced the shadow(thank goodness).
I will add my .02 though and say I was at the dealership checking otu a 05 srt-4 and when they tried convincing me to drive the caliber srt-4 I didn't even have the slightest desire to get behind the wheel. It looks like someone previously stated a chopped up aztec. Cool features and nice engine(sans the aluminum block - pooh on dodge for dropping the iron) but upright stance and ride position and , well, it's just contrary to what i would want in a fwd musclecar.
